Here on TGD we call the screenwriting team of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman part of Team Abrams. They’ve been writing for JJ since Alias, and have also written the scripts for Transformers, Mission Impossible 3, Cowboys and Aliens, and many more. In short, they’re two of the hottest genre writers in Hollywood right now.
There’s a lot up in the air with Star Trek right now, primarily because JJ Abrams is going off to helm the Star Wars franchise. While it’s unclear who will helm the next Trek, for the new installment, Kurtzman and Orci will definitely be back writing the screenplay.
The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Paramount was looking into other writers to potentially pen the next Trek movie, but now the team of Alex and Roberto are definitely back onboard, and Abrams is negotiating to produce. Like Abrams, Kurtzman and Orci have a full plate of movies and TV shows to work on, but we’re sure they’ll find time to write another Trek movie.
There’s currently no date on when the third Star Trek will be ready, but the Reporter reminds us the series will be hitting its 50th anniversary in 2016, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Paramount was shooting for something around there, if not sooner.
