We just reported on the upcoming 50th anniversary Doctor Who special that will be broadcast simultaneously world-wide in 3D. Now there is officially a new Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi, an actor who hails from Scotland.
As USA Today reports, Capaldi is very excited to take on the role, and upon the announcement of the big news, he said, “It’s so wonderful not to keep this secret any longer.” It turns out Capaldi is a big fan of the good Doctor, and he added, “I haven’t played Doctor Who since I was 9 on the playground.”
As USA Today reminds us, Capaldi is the twelfth Doctor Who, and the fourth actor in recent history to take on the role, along with Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith.
Ironically, Capaldi was up to play Doctor Who the eleventh time around, but there’s a time and place for everything, and now’s that time. Look for Capaldi to make his debut in the sci-fi role of a lifetime in the Doctor Who Christmas Special at the end of the year.
