These days it’s rather difficult for most Android tablets to set themselves apart from the pack, as most are equipped with the same hardware, basic features and software variants.
Well, there is now a new Android tablet – the LumiTab – that does something slightly different.
As its name suggests, the tablet boasts a built-in pico projector using DLP technology. However, I’d wager, like as with most pico projectors, that you’ll need pretty much complete darkness to get a decent image measuring 100-inches. Typically, most pico projectors are only capable of throwing a small image in a normal environment with light.
Other than an integrated pico projector, the tablet features a seven-inch screen and runs Android 4.2. It is powered by a TI OMAP4460 dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at at 1.5 GHz.
Additional specs? 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of integrated storage, a microSD card slot for storage expansion, a mini HDMI output, two-megapixel cameras on the front and rear, integrated Wi-Fi, an integrated accelerometer and a 4800 mAh lithium-ion battery.
The integrated projector offers up a native resolution of 854 x 480 and 35 lumens of brightness. Frankly, that’s not exactly high resolution, meaning if you’re able to project a larger image things won’t look nearly as nice as they appear the integrated seven-inch IPS display which boasts a resolution of 1024 x 600.
There’s no indication of when the tablet will be available or how much it will cost at this time. Then again, it is probably safe to assume that even with a rather dim and low resolution integrated projector, this device will carry quite a premium price tag.
