Cupertino has taken steps to bolster its security system for Apple ID accounts linked to popular services like iCloud and iTunes.
Indeed, Apple is now offering users a two-step verification procedure for making changes to their account.
AppleInsider confirmed the new feature began rolling out to Apple ID owners on Thursday, allowing users with accounts for services like iCloud, the iTunes Store, App Store and others to enable it on the Apple ID website.
Once two-step verification has been activated, users can receive verification codes on their mobile device, such as an iPhone or iPad. On iOS devices, the codes are received via the Find My iPhone application, while other handset users receive the code via text message.
Once the code arrives, an iOS lock screen display a notification that users must “unlock to view [their] verification code.”
It should be noted that Apple also offers users the ability to maintain a recovery key in case the mobile phone tied to the account is lost or stolen.
The above-mentioned two-factor authentication system was added 8 months after Wired reporter Mat Honan’s iCloud account was hacked and his iPhone, iPad and Mac remotely wiped.
