Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have worked together on a number of high-profile sci-fi projects, including Fringe, Star Trek, Enders Game and even Cowboys and Aliens.
And now the sci-fi masters have teamed up to sell an an original sci-fi thriller pitch to Universal Pictures titled Sagittarius A.
Unfortunately, not much is known about the new project, but as Nick Venable of GiantFreakinRobot points out, Sagittarius A is a supermassive black hole in the middle of the Milky Way.
According to Wikipedia: “Sagittarius A (or Sgr A) is a complex radio source at the center of the Milky Way. It is located in the Sagittarius constellation, and is hidden from view at optical wavelengths by large clouds of cosmic dust in the spiral arms of the Milky Way.
“It consists of three components, the supernova remnant Sagittarius A East, the spiral structure Sagittarius A West, and a very bright compact radio source at the center of the spiral, Sagittarius A. These three overlap: Sagittarius A East is the largest, West appears off-center within East, and A is at the center of West.”
And yes, as noted above, astronomers now have evidence there is a supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy. Sagittarius A is believed to be the most plausible candidate for the location of this supermassive black hole.
Interestingly, Orci and Kurtzman won’t be penning the script, which will be written by Steven Karczynski who adapted the sci-fi video game Dark Void for Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.
Since Orci and Kurtzman are currently on fire n Hollywood due to the success of Star Trek, we can probably expect Universal to move forward ASAP on the enigmatic project. TG Daily will keep you posted.
