As we anxiously await the next Star Trek film, there’s a few things we can do to keep ourselves occupied before May 17.
There’s the graphic novel prequel, the video game is due to go live in April, and there’s also the Star Trek app for iOS and Android devices that’s tied into the movie as well.
As Collider notes, this app has “exclusive content” from the movie, and not only will it keep pumping out info from the movie in advance of its release, but the app will also continue to upload goodies well into the film’s home video release, and beyond.
The app features a user friendly interface, fast photo, poster and billboard scans, news, interactive features, contests, and it’s designed for both casual fans and hardcore Trekkies, which is also very smart. Although not everyone has what it takes to be a Trekkie, the best Star Trek films have won over people of all walks of life, not just the geeks.
What’s especially interesting to us at TG is with this app you also have access to all the latest Star Trek news and articles, and you can view them with a drop down menu. As we’re becoming more and more paper free, it will be nice to be able to access a ton of Star Trek data in one place without newspaper clippings and magazines piling up in your home.
Now about JJ Abrams making Star Wars, the news of course just broke this week, so we don’t know if his schedule will allow him to come back to Star Trek, but right as this story was being finalized, Chris Pine definitely had something to say about it.
“From my standpoint, JJ is a science-fiction genius,” Pine told USA Today. “To have him over in the Star Wars camp is going to be a great thing I’m sure it’s going to be a great film. The only way I’ll be disappointed is if he doesn’t direct our third movie. I think if that turns out to be the case we’ll have to kidnap him and hold him hostage until he agrees to do a third.”
