Ramos is currently prepping one of the first Android tablets powered by Intel’s Atom Z2640 (Medfield) processor – a 1.6 GHz x86 chip paired with PowerVR SGX540 graphics.
According to CNX-Software, the Ramos W32 features a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel IPS display with a 170 degree viewing angle, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.
Unfortunately, the tablet runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0), which is somewhat outdated, although not exactly a shocker, as it takes Intel some time to port the latest versions of Android from its native ARM environment to operate smoothly on x86 devices.
Additional specs include a 1.3MP front-facing camera, 5-point capacitive touchscreen, 802.11n WiFi, a micro USB port, 3.5mm headset jack, a microSD card slot and 6-7 hour battery.
As Liliputing’s Brad Linder notes, a number of videos posted to YouTube seems to show the Ramos offering “decent” performance.
“While the Intel x86 processor is the tablet’s most unusual feature, odds are most people could pick up the Ramos W32 and use it without realizing it has an Intel chip instead of a mid-level ARM-based processor,” Linder opined.
PandaWill is currently accepting pre-orders for the Ramos W32 which is priced at $288 and slated to ship in early January. The tablet can also be purchased via a number of AliExpress vendors.
