In the market for a new smartphone and happen to live in an area with coverage by US Cellular? You might want to check out the new Samsung Galaxy Axiom which operates on the carrier’s 4G LTE network.
The handset is available with a contract ($79) or at an outright purchase price of $399.99.
So for about $80 you’ll be snapping up an Android 4.0 smartphone with a four-inch screen and a five-megapixel rear camera. Of course, this isn’t exactly one of Samsung’s top performing smartphones, as it is basically a mildly upgraded version of the pared down Galaxy S III Mini.
The processor inside the Axiom is a 1.5 GHz dual core Krait CPU. There is a somewhat of a discrepancy between Samsung’s listed specifications and the official US Cellular info. For example, Samsung says the Krait processor operates at 1.2 GHz, while other specs up for debate include 4 GB of internal storage – with only 1.8 GB available to the user for apps and other content. The good news? The Galaxy Axiom does have a microSD card slot for storage expansion.
Part of the reason there’s so little internal storage available to the user is that the phone comes loaded with a slew of Google software and other content. US Cellular says that the phone includes Google Wallet, Chrome, Flipboard, Samsung S-Voice and S-Beam.
Overall, this is a modestly speced smartphone that’ll probably be most appealing to those looking for a device on a budget.
