The creator of the wildly popular Halo franchise has confirmed the development of a new genre game titled Destiny.
And wouldn’t you know it? Destiny was recently publicized when a leaked Bungie document detailing the game appeared on a number of sites, including IGN and Kotaku. Apparently, the document was found on a USB drive in a coffee shop.
Details are fairly sparse at this point, but we do know Destiny is set on a future Earth. After a brief colonization of the stars, humanity has been attacked by aliens and limited to a single city on the planet where the survivors are protected by a large, mysterious spacecraft.
According to Kotaku, players of the “highly social” game will take on the role of a futuristic “space knight,” travelling the stars, exploring worlds and fighting the alien menace.
“Go ahead. Take a peek. It’s alright. We weren’t quite ready, but we will be soon, and we can’t wait to finally show you what we’ve really been up to,” a Bungie rep wrote in an official blog post. “Stick around, we haven’t even started yet.”
True, it isn’t much to go on, at least not yet, but we do know that Bungie design director Joseph Staten told Wired “the scope and the ambition of what we’re planning is much greater than the scope and the ambition of Halo,” so at least we have something big to look forward to.
