New footage from the set of the new Thor film recently hit the ‘Net, courtesy of some good old fashioned set espionage.
The clip below, posted by Splash News, depicts Chris Hemsworth and Christopher Eccleston in full costume as Thor and Malekith the Accursed respectively, battling it out on set. Nothing really spoilery here, as I’m sure we knew they’d have to duke it out at some point. Of course, it always take a little of the magic out of the great fight scenes when we remember that they are mostly done one move at a time, rather than in a single flowing sequence.
There is also this one from a few weeks ago, showing some kind of epic battle scene with lots of costumed extras, some horsemanship, a few flash-pots, and a Splash News guy giving it a corny voice-over.
It’s interesting to see that not all of the battles will be one-on-one type stuff this time. My guess is that this is the forces of Asgard up against the forces of the Titular Dark World, Svartalfheim , that Thor has to defend his home against.
Thor: The Dark World will be mostly based on the Marvel graphic novel of the same name, in which Thor must go underground to fight the dark elves of Svartalfheim and their leader, Malekith the Accursed after they steal the Casket of Ancient Winters.
The official synopsis is thus:
Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’sThor and Marvel’sThe Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
Thor: The Dark World hits theaters November 8th, 2013, and will be a part of the sequence of films that Marvel Studios is calling Avengers Phase Two, which also includes Iron Man 3,Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers 2.
