Samsung is getting ready to showcase its giant 85-inch Ultra HD television at CES 2013 in Las Vegas.
Ultra High Definition televisions, previously known as 4K TVs, are likely to be one of the biggest categories at the show this January. According to official CEA specifications, displays claiming to be Ultra HD must boast at least 8 million active pixels with a resolution of 3840 x 2160.
In addition, the screen must also support an aspect ratio of at least 16:9 andfeature one digital input capable of carrying and presenting native 4K format video at full resolution.
Now, I’m making a point of highlighting the official industry definition of 4K TV, Ultra HD simply because Samsung is offering very little detail on its new 85-inch Ultra HDTV (not pictured) that it will be bringing to CES.
All we know is that the set boasts an 85-inch screen, LED backlighting and is equipped with “powerful and dynamic” integrated audio.
The corporation is also remaining mum on details such pricing and availability, but we can definitely expect the TV to be incredibly expensive. Remember, similar products from other manufacturers, including LG, are typically priced at between $20,000-$25,000. Of course Samsung could surprise us all with a price at a fraction of the competition, but I very much doubt it.
