The OLinuXino may look a lot like the Raspberry Pi, but it boasts a faster processor, as well as additional integrated input and output ports.
Plus, says Bulgarian device maker Olimex, the OLinuXino is completely open source – including the hardware and software.
Meaning, the software can be modded, while hardware source files can be downloaded, allowing tech enthusiasts to develop and sell products based on the designs.
There are currently two OLinuXino systems available, both of which sell for less than $60.
First up is the A13-OLinuXino which is equipped with a 1 GHz Allwinner A13 ARM Cortex-A13 processor and Mali 400 graphics. Meanwhile, the iMX233-OLinuXino-MAXI is powered by a 454 MHz Freescale i.MX233 chip.
As Liliputing’s Brad Linder notes, while the iMX233 is designed for embedded computing applications, the A13 can likely be used for an Android or Linux computer.
Indeed, the latter unit features 512MB of RAM, 3 USB host ports, an SD card slot for storage, VGA output, audio jacks, and UEXT connector for additional modules – as well as GPIO connectors for flash, LCD, or other devices.
