Kit Harington has been talking to the press a lot lately due to his part in the upcoming Silent Hill film, but what a lot of the fans really want to know about it Game of Thrones, in which he plays the part of Jon Snow.
In an interview with Collider, the young actor said, “I’d definitely say our budget’s bigger for season three, you can feel it on set.”
It doesn’t sound like Harington knows any numbers, which would be unlikely anyhow unless HBO had already published them, but the actors on set can usually get a good idea of what kind of production values are going into a show.
In reference to the season’s plot, he said, “I’ll put it this way: season one was a big impact season, season two was more story, season three is another impact season. There’s some wonderful stuff coming in this season which is gonna grab people, especially if they don’t know what’s coming… So I’d say enjoy it, because this season is my favorite season so far.”
This sentiment is one that’s been put out by several of the actors and crew for the show, and if you know the books, you can be pretty sure you know what he’s talking about. For the sake of others, I won’t spoil it here.
Harington’s character in the books, Jon Snow is one of the most iconic of the series. While mostly involved in a long sub-plot of his own, and far away from the machinations of cout in King’s Landing, Jon Snow probably has the most adventurous story of any character. While nearly all the other major characters are somewhat in danger from assassins and political execution, Snow is in physical danger almost constantly, and while he still needs to be intellegent and sometimes even political, most of his challenges are overcome through physical strength or willpower, which is possibly why he’s seen by most fans as a more heroic figure, at least in a traditional sense. Snow is also the character portrayed on the cover of the first book.
Harrington goes on to say that he’s not sure if there will be more seasons of the show, but don’t let that worry you. While a fourth season may not have officially been ordered yet, the show runners have said over and over again – since they get asked over and over again in interviews and at Q&A sessions – that they will continue to make more Game of Thrones seasons for as long as George R. R. Martin – author of the Song of Ice and Fire series that the show is based on – keeps writing more books.
You can see the full interview, which also discusses his roles in Silent Hill – in which he teams up with fellow Game of Thrones alum, Sean Bean – and The Seventh Son, over on Collider, or just watch it here:
The third season of Game of Thrones, which covers the events of the first half of book three of Song of Ice and Fire, is currently in production and will begin airing on March 31st, 2013 on HBO.
