Apple introduced its 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro back in June, leaving Mac fans wondering when the 13-inch iteration of the wildly popular ‘Book would get the same Retina treatment.
Today, Apple debuted a new 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro (2560×1600, 227-pixels-per-inch) with a starting price of $1699.
Aside from the new display, the device features a dual-core 2.5GHz-2.9GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD and Intel HD Graphics 4000.
“The 13-inch MacBook Pro is our most popular Mac, and today it gets completely reinvented with a new thin and light design, fast flash storage and a gorgeous Retina display,” said Apple exec Philip Schiller.
“With vivid colors, razor sharp text and more pixels than anyone else’s 15 or 17-inch notebooks, the Retina display completely changes what you expect from a notebook. The 13-inch Retina display uses IPS technology for a 178-degree wide viewing angle, and has 75 percent less reflection and 29 percent higher contrast than the current generation.”
Interestingly, the laptop is somewhat thinner and lighter than the non-Retina version, weighing in at 3.57 pounds 0.75″ thick.
Additional specs include a MagSafe 2 connector, two Thunderbolt ports, two USB 3.0 ports an HDMI port, an SD card slot, dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, FaceTime HD camera, a backlit keyboard, 7 hour battery and OS X Mountain Lion.
