Talk about kicking a man while he’s down.
LG has decided to file a lawsuit against Samsung because it believes Samsung is infringing on its patents.
Sound familiar? Apple just scored a huge victory against Samsung for the same thing. This lawsuit could potentially be just as damaging.
This time around, the patents in question relate to organic LED (OLED) technology. LG cites devices like the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Tab 7.7 as using display technology that it owns the rights to.
The lawsuit came about after Samsung accused LG of theft of technology, demanding an apology. Apparently that ticked off LG so badly that the company’s legal team has been working around the clock to find some sort of actionable claim against Samsung.
“This lawsuit has been filed both to enforce LG Display’s intellectual property rights and promote fair competition,” LG said in a statement.
In the Apple case, Samsung exuded arrogance. These types of lawsuits are generally settled outside of court, especially when there are large companies involved, much less two gigantic companies.
So it will be interesting to see if Samsung allows this one to go all the way to trial as well, or if it will minimize its risk and swiftly arrange a settlement with LG.
For now, Samsung has no comment on the newly filed legal action.
