Relativity Media has released a new featurette for its upcoming startle flick.
House at the End of the Street is a horror mystery in which a young woman is forced to discover the nature of a terrible crime, while escaping from the clutches of a dangerous psychopathic recluse who may have supernatural powers.
This featurette takes the form of an interview with the film’s star, Jennifer Lawrence. Here she explains her characters motivations in the film, her own motivations for taking the role, and why she feels it’s an important story. It’s interspersed with footage from the film – some of which is new and unplayed in previous promo material:
Some audiences were confused by the promos for this film at first, since the first teaser made it seem like a strange memento-esque reverse-thriller, but we can now infer that was just a stylistic option for the one teaser. An odd choice, but I guess it got people talking.
Interestingly, the film was actually finished some time ago, but had been delayed by the studio. Likely this is fortuitous for the filmmakers, as it means they are able to fully capitalize on the star, Jenifer Lawrence’s new-found popularity, after staring in The Hunger Games. The films don’t really have much overlap in target audience, but there will be more than a few people in the seats who are going just to see Lawrence, rather than because they actually like this type of film, which has a very specific audience set.

The official synopsis is thus:
Seeking a fresh start, newly divorced Sarah (Elisabeth Shue) and her daughter Elissa (Lawrence) find the house of their dreams in a small, upscale, rural town. But when startling and unexplainable events begin to happen, Sarah and Elissa learn the town is in the shadows of a chilling secret. Years earlier, in the house next door, a daughter killed her parents in their beds, and disappeared – leaving only a brother, Ryan (Max Thieriot), as the sole survivor. Against Sarah’s wishes, Elissa begins a relationship with the reclusive Ryan – and the closer they get, the deeper they’re all pulled into a mystery more dangerous than they ever imagined.
House at the End of the Street hits theaters on September 21st, 2012.
