Walt Disney Pictures has launched a pair of clips for its upcoming family fantasy film, The Odd Life of Timothy Green.
Directed by Peter Hedges and Staring Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton and CJ Adams, this light fantasy film follows the story of a loving couple who accidentally wish themselves a child by placing their hopes and dreams for an ideal youngster into a box, and burying it in the yard.
This first clip shows the beginning of the wish process that brings the boy to life:
The second shows the touching discovery of that genesis:
Frankly, this looks more like a comedy than anything else, and will be strongly reliant on the tired and clichéd man-out-of-place routine. Each scene will be filled with puzzled looks and awkward questions as plant-boy discovers what it’s like to fit in with the human world. Expect a bunch of touching moments mixed with the awkward ones, and you’d likely be a statue if you don’t cry at the film’s likely predictable climax, but I wouldn’t expect any fantasy elements which are not soft as butter on the inside.
The official synopsis is thus:
An inspiring, magical story about a happily married couple, Cindy and Jim Green (Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton), who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy (CJ Adams) shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim—and their small town of Stanleyville—learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.
