Samuel Jackson joins Robocop reboot

Genre fans everywhere are quite excited by the new trailer for Django Unchained hitting the web, as well as Prometheus opening this weekend.

The trailer may also be saving some really incredible material for the finished film because having read the script, Samuel Jackson’s got a great role in Django that may potentially steal the show.

So while film geeks everywhere wait with bated breath until Christmas Day when Django Unchained comes out at theaters everywhere, the news also hit that Jackson is up to play a role in the reboot of Robocop.

This certainly makes for a very interesting cast with Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) playing the title role, and Gary Oldman as the scientist who creates Robocop.

Although I’m not exactly enthusiastic about Robocop being remade in the first place (it it ain’t broke, don’t fix it), this definitely makes the prospects of a Robocop remake much more interesting than before.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jackson’s role is Pat Novak, “a charismatic media mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world.”

The new Robocop is hoping to start shooting in Toronto this September, with a planned summer 2013 release. While at the moment it’s not clear if Jackson’s a good guy or a bad guy, he could be an update of the Ronnie Cox role in the original for all we know, he’s sure to play the hell out of the part either way.
