Hunger Games is coming to Blu-ray and DVD

We’ve see the fans of Twilight, or the Twi-hards as they’re called, line up at the local Best Buy at midnight for the home video release of the teen vampire flicks.

And you know when The Hunger Games is unleashed for home viewing on August 18 at precisely 12:01 a.m., there are certain to be big crowds as well.

As Cinema Blend reports, Hunger Games will indeed be available on Blu-Ray, DVD, On Demand, and Digital Download on August 18.

Both the DVD and the Blu-Ray will be two-disc editions packed with tons of extras including The World is Watching, an eight part documentary on the making of the film, a featurette on Games author Suzanne Collins, a featurette on Donald Sutherland playing President Snow, an interview with writer / director Gary Ross, and more.

The Blu-ray of Hunger Games is listed for $39.99, while the DVD goes for $30.98. Although there are sure to be discounts at wherever you buy DVD and Blu-Ray these days, there’s no doubt that whether they go at a discount or not, The Hunger Games is going to move tons of copies when it’s ready for purchase.

And just as fans lined up at midnight to be the first to see the film in theaters, you know the very same fans will be out in force at midnight to get the DVD and Blu-ray as well. It will certainly be interesting to see how much more money the home release add sto the ever-growing Hunger Games pile, and how long people will keep spending money on the franchise, both in theaters and for their home collections.

Judging by the film’s box office take, and the insane flow of money coming in from Games, The Avengers, and the upcoming Dark Knight Rises, the movie biz could indeed be in very good shape this year. Domestically, The Hunger Games (thus far) has made $392 million, and approximately $650 million worldwide.
