20th Century Fox has released a new featurette for its upcoming sci-fi adventure thriller, Prometheus, which details the Merideth Vickers character, played by Charlize Theron.
Theron serves as Weyland Yutani’s representative on board the Prometheus, a ship which was sent across the galaxy searching for an alien race connected to mankind’s origins.
The video has a series of quick clips showing the character being a hard-ass, with bits from an interview with Theron interspersed.
The character acts as a strong symbol of corporate oversight, and will likely serve an important role as a creator of drama and conflict among the characters before the discovery of the real threat. I do not doubt that this character and the protagonist will have a hard time of getting along.
The film depicts the adventures of a team of explorers who follow an ancient map, which they find in various archeological dig sites around the world, to an alien complex of some kind, where they awaken a long-dormant race with ill intent toward humanity. The movie takes place in the same story universe as Ridley Scott’s previous original science fiction films, but deals with a different alien race at another time, though still a first-contact tale of sorts.
The synopsis is thus:
Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.
