Last month it was announced that the sequel to the 2005 hit comic book adaptation was out of development, and would begin shooting this summer.
Since then we’ve gotten some casting news, along with a new poster.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For will follow two stories in Basin City. Nancy, played by Jessica Alba in the first film, is struggling to deal with the death of Hartigan.
Meanwhile Dwight, previously played by Clive Owen, is plotting a murder, as Ava Lord must die for what she did to him.
All the casting thus far seems to have brought back the actors who were in the first film.
Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson, and Michael Madsen have already been confirmed to reprise their characters, Marv, Gail, and Bob respectively, and Devon Aoki is in talks to reprise Miho.
There is no word yet as to the status of Alba or Owen, although it seems like it would pretty important to get them back, especially considering the plot will be focused on them. Of course, Bruce Willis is unlikely to return unless he’s needed for a flashback.
“The first question I am always asked is “When will you make another Sin City?” filmmaker Robert Rodriquez said last month. “I have wanted to re-team with Frank Miller and return to the world he created since the day we wrapped the original, but have felt a duty to the fans to wait until we had something truly exceptional that would meet and exceed what have become epic expectations. A Dame To Kill For will certainly be worth the wait.”
Sin City creator, screenwriter and co-director Frank Miller said, “The first Sin City knocked out audiences who had never seen anything like it before. Robert Rodriguez and I are going to shake things up and deliver a ferocious film experience that is going to go even further than the first.”
Sin City: A Dame to Kill for will begin filming this summer after the cast is in place. A release date has yet to be announced.
