Maingear is a boutique manufacturer of gaming notebooks of all sorts, and has been around for quite some time.
The company recently announced its latest notebook, which is essentially a desktop replacement for gamers. The system – dubbed Titan 17 – is being offered with the brand-new Nvidia GeForce GTX 675M GPU, along with a 3D display option.
The notebook can also be optioned with dual Nvidia discrete GPUs in SLI mode and fitted with Intel’s Core i7 3960X Extreme Edition desktop processor, which clocks in at a cool 3.90 GHz.
As you may recall, the Extreme Edition processor boasts unlocked multipliers that allows overclockers to easily tweak the machine for even more performance.
And now for some tech specs. As expected, the Titan 17 offers pretty sweet graphics benchmarks with dual GTX 675M GPUs in SLI mode.
Of course, a single 675M is 60% faster than the previous 660M, with each featuring a gigabyte of GDDR5 video RAM for a total of 2 GB in SLI mode. The optional 3D display uses Nvidia 3D Vision technology, meaning active battery-powered glasses.
The display is a respectable 17.3 inches, with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080. The notebook supports up to 32 GB of DDR3 RAM, and can be loaded with a Blu-ray read/write drive. There’s also enough room for three 512 GB SSDs or 750 GB 5400 RPM SATA 2.5-inch HDDs. Battery power is an eight-cell removable lithium-ion unit, and the computer is equipped with integrated Killer wireless-N Wi-Fi support.
The boutique Titan starts at $2,599, with the fully optioned machine – 3960X processor and dual GPUs – weighing in at significantly more than the starting price.
