Sony Ericsson, which has provided one of the most ambitious Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade promises to date, has released more details on the process and when it’s set to begin.
So far no device is being upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich. Google had begun the update process for its Nexus S smartphone but due to glitches it had to temporarily pull the plug.
Meanwhile, Sony Ericsson has assured consumers it plans to upgrade every one of its phones in the “Xperia” line. No other manufacturer has managed to confirm ICS upgrades for that many handsets.
The upgrade process will come first to the newest devices, the Xperia Neo V as well as the Arc S and the Ray. Those upgrades will come in late March, according to the company’s first official announcement regarding an Ice Cream Sandwich timeline.
Following those phone, the Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Active, Xperia Play, Arc, Play, and Sony Ericsson Live will all be slated to get the latest version of Android beginning at the end of April.
“Our developers are now busy merging our current Xperia software with the new features in Android 4.0 … This will be a phased roll out over several weeks and all kits for a specific phone model will not get the upgrade at the same time,” Sony Ericsson explained in an official blog post.
