I’ll never forget the first season of Battlestar Galactica, which, IMHO, is perfect example of military sci-fi at its finest.
Although the show started to go seriously downhill after season 2.5, BSG is probably one of my all time favorite television series, despite a ridiculous conclusion that left many viewers (and BSG actors) completely unsatisfied.
I’m not sure why the show hit such a downward spiral, but I suspect it had a lot to do with lazy writers and people in high places not caring if the show was wrapped up in a slipshod fashion.
But enough about the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica.
I’m certainly willing to let bygones be bygones, especially if some of the former Galactica crew can bring that Battlestar magic to a new series, like BSG executive producer David Eick.
Yes, Eick, along with feature writing/directing duo Paul Boardman and Scott Derrickson, has reportedly sold a new sci-fi drama to AMC.
Boardman and Derrickson will pen the new show, and executive produce it along with Eick, which, according to Deadline, is named Thunderstruck.
The show’s basic premise?
A number of powerful and enigmatic entities begin appearing all over the world. One of the mysterious beings pops up in the town of Great Falls, Montana, forcing the locals to grapple with the dramatic effects and growing mystery of repeated visitations.
Thunderstruck is apparently the first foray into television for Boardman and Derrickson, as the duo wrote The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, with Derrickson directing. The two are currently typing up Zwart Water for Derrickson to direct, with Charlize Theron slated to star and produce.
Meanwhile, Eick is co-writing two high-profile series projects with Guillermo Del Toro: Hulk at ABC (based on the classic Marvel character), and Inhuman at HBO.
