Microsoft has managed to yank one of Samsung’s senior executives as it tries to bolster attention and excitement for Windows Phone.
Lots of new and interesting things are happening in the world of Windows Phone. The new version of the nascent platform, known popularly as Mango, brings a sweeping set of updates and could change the way developers approach app creation.
Additionally, a handful of Nokia smartphones are set to ship within the coming months, all powered by Windows Phone and bringing with them the ergonomics and design that only Nokia can offer.
The question is – will consumers care? Will they even notice?
That is assumedly what Gavin Kim will tackle now that he is on the Windows Phone team. Kim was the vice president of consumer and enterprise services at Samsung and was instrumental in the launch of the Galaxy Tab which, despite only garnering moderate focus away from the iPad, was the first real Android tablet and remains the strongest such brand on the market right now.
In a statement quoted by Boy Genius Report, Kim said, “I will be responsible to help set the future direction for the Windows Phone platform and to accelerate Microsoft’s trajectory to win the hearts and minds of consumers, carriers, device manufacturers, developers and partners.”
Of course, Microsoft needs Samsung’s support to make Windows Phone a success, so Kim will no doubt be working right alongside his former colleagues, albeit in quite a different capacity.
