AMD launches FirePro V4900

AMD has rolled out its FirePro V4900 – a graphics card targeted at the Digital Content Creation (DCC) and Computer Aided Design (CAD) markets.

AMD exec Hao Pham told TG Daily the AMD FirePro V4900 “significantly improves” graphics workflow, as the card runs multiple CAD and DCC applications twice as fast as hardware (Nvidia Quadro 600) offered by the competition.

“The FirePro V4900 may carry an entry level price at $189, but it is a high-level card capable of driving up to 6 displays,” said Pham.

“For example, during our benchmarking tests, the V4900 boasted two and a half times the performance of Nvidia’s Quadro 600.”

Pham also noted that AMD was approximately 6 months ahead of the competition and could have launched the V4900 months ago if it had wanted.

“But we chose to take the time and align our efforts with major OEMs. So yes, it was definitely on time from an OEM perspective.

“And as far as adoption goes, I must say there is a lot of enthusiasm despite the current economic situation. A high-end card that carries an entry-level price tag of $189 will definitely appeal to the DCC and CAD communities – but won’t break the bank,” he added.
