Add this one to the list of apps created for the sole purpose of making people riled up.
French developer Emmene Moi, which translates to “Bring Me,” has released an Android app titled “Is My Son Gay?”
The app is basically just a list of 20 yes/no questions; the idea is that parents will answer all the questions about their son, and at the end will be told whether or not he’s likely to be gay.
Questions point to typical homosexual stereotypes like “Before he was born did you wish he would be a girl?” “Does he like to dress up nicely?” “Does he like Diva singers?” and “Has he introduced you to a girlfriend yet?”
The only other app in Emmene Moi’s library is “Mon Fils Est-Il Gay?” which is a French version of the exact same app. Here’s what the developer wrote in its app description:
“You’re questioning yourself? 20 questions to know more about your son. After this test you’ll have the proven answer to a question you might have since maybe a long time.”
Not surprisingly, the app is striking up a lot of controversy. Advocacy publication Instinct Magazine blasted it as using a bogus “science of tired and offensive stereotypes.”
Jezebel.com called it “horrible” and “stereotypical.”
However, although it is not exactly politically correct, the app is not outright homophobic. If your answers to the questions lead to a homosexual diagnosis, the app says, “No need to look the other way! … He is gay! … ACCEPT IT!”
