What do Logan’s Run and Wonder Woman have in common? Why, director Nicolas Winding Refn, of course!
Yes, Refn, who recently picked up the best director prize at Cannes for Drive, has already immersed himself in rebooting the sci-fi cult classic.
The original Logan’s Run hit the big screen in 1976 and was based on a dystopian 1967 novel in which citizens are killed at the age of 30. Not a very fun place to live I imagine, but I think it would definitely be cool to watch Refn’s modern depiction of a very dysfunctional 2274.
“I really want to make Logan’s Run. [So] I’m working on it very hard and I have to deliver a script by Christmas,” Refn told the BBC.
“[And] Logan’s Run is [actually] a bigger thing [than other films like Only God Forgives], [simply] because it’s so expensive, it’s Warner Bros and it’s got more people involved.”
Refn also commented on rumors about the lovely Christina Hendricks playing Wonder Woman in a new movie about the heroine that technically doesn’t yet exist.
“I was asked what would be my dream project, so I said Wonder Woman, and it built up from there.
“Then people asked who I would cast and I said Christina Hendricks, because she’s the perfect woman, she’s a great actress and she looks like a woman should look.”
Still, Refn was quick to emphasize that shooting a Wonder Woman remained a definite possibility in the future.
“There were some people saying, ‘let’s see how Logan’s Run goes and we’ll take Wonder Woman from there’… It’s Hollywood – [so you really] never know.”
For her part, Hendricks seemed to be quite enthusiastic about playing Wonder Woman, if and when the movie gets the green light.
“I grew up on the TV show, and I had Wonder Woman Underoos, and my brother had a Wonder Woman doll. And Nicolas said, when we were on set, ‘I want you to be Wonder Woman,’ Hendricks told Vulture.
“And I think he is such an extraordinary and exceptional director, that if he asked me to do it, I would do it in a heartbeat. I think it would be cool to do that. I look forward to learning more about [Wonder Woman], actually. I should probably start reading the [comic books], so that if someone were to ask me [to be in the movie], I would be fully prepared.”
