While Pacific Rim wasn’t the big hit that many hoped it would be, there’s plenty of people that would love another installment. Well, wish granted.
According to Collider, the next Pacific Rim movie will shoot late next year, and there are also plans for a third movie as well. To satisfy fans before the movie comes out, there will be an animated series as well.
As Del Toro told Collider, “We got the first draft of the movie right now, we are going to spend another 4-5 months on the screenplay before we start pre-production. We start pre-production next year in August – September and start shooting November – December next year.”
While it’s odd to see a movie get a sequel when the first installment wasn’t a huge hit, we’re hoping that the next Pacific Rim will turn new fans onto the original, and end up making what’s being planned as a trilogy a major success.
The next Pacific Rim has a release date of April 7, 2017.
