Redmond has issued 16 bulletins to fix a whopping 49 vulnerabilities that affect all versions of Windows from XP to 7.
Four of the bulletins have been rated critical, two moderate, and the rest – important.
The wide-ranging update also patches various security flaws in Microsoft’s popular Office suite, ranging from XP to 2010.
“The number of vulnerabilities in itself is noteworthy but two items from this crop of patches are especially notable,” explained Jonathan Leopando of TrendMicro.
“First of all, Mac users have something to worry about as well, as Office 2004 and 2008 and the OpenXML File Format Converter for Mac are covered by two bulletins.
“Server applications are also part of this month’s fixes, as several key components of the SharePoint collaboration suite have also been patched, while Office Web Apps has also been covered.”
Other notable patched vulnerabilities include:
- Stuxnet worm breach.
- A hole in IE (6, 7 and 8) that could be exploited by a malicious webpage (malware code) to assume control of a system.
- Possible remote takeover of WMP via a malicious RTSP (real-time streaming protocol) vulnerability.
- Embedded OpenType (EOT) fonts – open to booby-trapped e-mail message (Word or PowerPoint).
- 64-bit .NET Framework and ASP.NET code – vulnerable to remote takeovers.
