The next phone to run on Verizon’s powerful 4G LTE network will be the most affordable one to date.
The Pantech Breakout launches on Thursday and will be available for just $99 for customers who sign up for a new two-year service agreement, along with at least a 2 GB data plan.
This is in stark contrast to Verizon’s existing LTE-compatible devices, which sell at an after-contract price of more than $200 – making them nearly the most expensive phones on the market.
The Breakout will be a nice addition to the carrier’s growing library of high-speed mobile devices, though keep in mind that Verizon no longer offers unlimited data plans for new customers.
Its specs are, of course, not quite to the same level as Verizon’s other LTE offerings, but they’re certainly not bad. The Breakout boasts a 1 GHz single-core processor, a 4-inch display, front and rear cameras, and Android 2.3.
Verizon’s 4G network has been heralded as the fastest and most reliable in this mad 4G race, but the problem is it has a limited number of handsets and the ones that are available are expensive.
This offering changes all that and shows that Verizon is now ready to move into the mass market. The company has to get in gear as other carriers are now planning on rolling out their own LTE networks.
In the end, it’s a win-win for consumers are mobile technology continues to rapidly expand.
