Verizon knows how to run a successful “attack ad” campaign. Its commercials that blasted AT&T’s fractional 3G coverage area hit big, and now it’s poking fun at the whole iPhone 4 antenna problem.
In a full-page print ad in the New York Times, Verizon showcases the Droid X, an upcoming redesign of its best-selling Droid phone.
Amidst a lot of text describing the features of the Droid X, the ad includes the line, “And most importantly, it comes with a double antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls.”
It’s pretty much a golden opportunity for companies that compete with Apple. Apple’s ridiculous response to the whole debacle, which is “hold your phone differently,” has left iPhone 4 owners frustrated and other consumers bemused at best.
