The sequel to ID4 has been in the works for a long time, and it looks like things are finally moving forward on it, because the movie just secured its male lead, Jessie Usher.
The Wrap tells us that Usher is going to be playing the son of Will Smith’s character, and it’s indeed a major break for the up and coming star. Liam Hemsworth (Hunger Games) is also onboard, along with original cast members Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman.
Roland Emmerich, who will direct the movie, tweeted that Usher was discovered at the gym, and was offered an audition. (And we thought stories like this only happened back in the ‘40s.)
It’s too bad that Big Willie Stylie won’t be back, he could certainly use a big blockbuster boost these days, and he was a big reason we loved ID4 in the first place. But maybe Usher will take this amazing opportunity and really run with it, creating a great Star is Born moment for his career.
