Toshiba has announced a summer launch date for its “3D Regza” LCD TV lineup.
According to Nikkei, the Regza TV product line will feature advanced “2D-3D conversion technology” to transform normal images into 3D pictures.
”Toshiba will make the Cell Regza LCD TVs equipped with the Cell Broadband Engine microprocessor, which it developed with IBM [to] support 3D images,” wrote Nikke’s Shinya Saeki.
“[Toshiba] intends to announce the specifications of the products at another occasion. [And] at [CES 2010], Toshiba [confirmed] it would release those LCD TVs in the European market…It will commercialize them in the Japanese market in the second half of 2010.”
However, Toshiba is expected to face stiff competition from other companies such as Sony, which is slated to unveil the first of its 3D-enabled TVs on June 10, 2010.
It should also be noted that Sony has announced plans to debut four 3D-enabled PS3 titles which will be bundled with its new TV lineup. The games reportedly include PAIN, Wipeout HD, Super Stardust HD and Motorstorm Pacific Rift.
