This PiCycle has WiFi Tracking Tech

Interested in electric bicycles, but hesitant to invest the necessary cash, seeing as how your last bike got lifted?

Fear not, as the new PiCyclee-bike offers the option of integrated Wi-Fi-based technology – not only to remotely monitor the bike’s performance, but to track it if it’s stolen.

Gizmag reports that seven-speed PiCycle ST, which prices just shy of $2,500, hides both its electronics and a 10 amp hour lithium-ion battery within that distinctive, aluminum heat-treated monocoque arch frame; your pedal-power gets a boost on this bike via a front-mounted 750 watt/36 volt brushless DC motor.

This bike can take you approximately 20 miles on a single charge, depending on your weight, the type of terrain you’re covering covered and how much of your own pedal power you’re willing to provide, reaching speeds of 20 miles per hour (MPH) unassisted, and close to 30 MPH with your help.

The bike’s optional embedded “PiFi” tech wirelessly streams data–including speed, distance, range, charge level, efficiency, cadence, mapping, direction of travel, and ambient temperature – to your iPhone or Android, via the Pi Q app scheduled for release later this year.
