Sony’s new Cyber-shots are the world’s smallest 3D cameras

Sony’s latest line of 3D digital cameras lets users take stereoscopic 3D images in the palm of their hands, as they are the smallest ones yet to hit the market.

The DSC-TX9 and DSC-WX5 work by taking 15 pictures instantaneously when the shutter button is pressed. Each of those pictures is shot at a different angle, allowing there to be a 3D effect that shows up clearly and stunningly on any stereoscopic 3D TV.

“Sony is focused on being the leader in 3D technology, leveraging its expertise to create the best 3D products, content and unique entertainment experiences,” said Sony Electronics digital imaging director Kelly Davis.

The cameras are also Sony’s first 3D cameras that use just a single lens and a panoramic 3D capture mode. They also let users view their pictures in 3D on the viewfinder with a simulated 3D display built-in.

The WX5 has a 2.8-inch touchscreen display and a 5x zoom lens, while the TX9 has a 3.5-inch display and a 4x wide-angle lens. Both can also capture 1080p HD quality video, but not 3D video. The resolution on each model is 12.2 megapixels.

Both cameras will be available in September, with the WX5 retailing at around $300 and the TX9 at $400.
