Barnes & Noble debuts PubIt! for Indie publishers and authors

Barnes & Noble has introduced a service that offers Indie publishers and authors a (potentially) lucrative method of digitally distributing content via the B&N eBookstore.

So, how does it work?

Well, titles submitted to PubIt! will be made available for sale within 24 to 72 hours after upload.

Publishers can then price their titles between $0.99 and $199.99, while receiving a competitive royalty based on the given price.

For example, publishers of eBooks tagged at $2.99-$9.99 will receive 65 percent of the list price for sold content.

For those priced at $2.98 or less – or $10.00 or more – authors receive 40 percent of the list price.

“PubIt! [provides] independent authors and publishers [with] greater visibility for their works through a range of B&N programs and promotions,” explained B&N spokesperson Theresa Horner.

“Publishing an eBook through PubIt! will make the content available via Barnes & Noble’s innovative Read In Store program.

“[In addition], all eBooks offered via PubIt! will be lendable, giving the customer the opportunity to share the book once with any friend for up to 14 days.”

Horner added that content sold via PubIt! will be “merchandized” through special promotions on Barnes & Noble’s eBookstore, including a bestseller list, e-mails and newsletters.
