It seems Youtube still hasn’t reached its saturation point yet.
The viral video sharing site has seen an increase in the number of daily video streams of 25% over the past eight months. As it stands now, more than 4 billion videos are watched every day.
And people aren’t just watching more videos; they’re creating more as well. Get this – about 60 hours of new video content is uploaded to the site every single minute.
Back in May, that number was around 48 hours.
Reuters, which is said to have exclusively received these latest numbers, says Google has credited the expansion of where and how people are accessing Youtube.
It’s no longer just available on desktop computers and laptops. People are streaming Youtube videos from their phones, game consoles, Internet-connected TVs, set-top boxes, and tablets.
You might recall that Google snapped up Youtube for $1.65 billion in 2006, an amount that seemed incredibly staggering at the time. But it seems to be working out quite nicely. In addition to all the money it takes in from sponsored videos, Youtube is now driving more than $5 billion in revenue from its “display” ads, which are purchased by everyone from mom-and-pop shops to corporate conglomerates.
Of the 4 billion videos that are streamed on a daily basis, Google reportedly makes money on about 428 million.
