Samsung rolls out Yahoo services on more phones

Samsung is to preload Yahoo services on tens of millions more phones, including those running Samsung’s own Bada platform and Google Android.

The devices will come with some or all of Mail, Messenger, Front Page, Search and Flikr, as well as News, Finance, Contents, Calendar and Weather.

“By making our most popular Yahoo services available on Samsung mobile devices around the world, we’re providing consumers with personally relevant mobile internet experiences that make it easy for them to stay connected to what’s important to them and explore the full potential of their device,” said David Ko, senior vice president, Audience, Mobile and Local for Yahoo.

“We’re thrilled to deepen our relationship with Samsung and look forward to continuing to drive the global adoption of mobile internet services.”

The global rollout begins next month.

Samsung currently has 19.5 percent of the global cellphone market, according to IDC – well behind Nokia with 36.4 percent. But it was an improvement over the previous year’s 16.3 percent, largely, says IDC, because of clever partnership deals.

Its smartphone share is even smaller, at just three percent. But the company has said it aims to triple this figure this year.
