In what could be the very first Android-based tablet that poses a direct threat to the iPad, Samsung has given us the first look at its Galaxy Tab device.
Revealed at the IFA technology trade show in Berlin, Samsung has officially lifted the veil on the device that we already knew was in the works.
The gadget weighs in at 14 ounces and has a 7-inch screen. That’s smaller than the iPad but if it comes out within the next couple months it will be the largest screen device to run Google’s Android operating system.
Indeed, it should be the first of its kind to the market with rollout in Europe expected to begin next month.
Samsung has a special Reader’s Hub platform that will make e-book reading on the device a seamless and user-friendly experience.
The unit will come in 16 GB and 32 GB sizes, with microSD expansion available to add up to another 32 GB in storage.
The device will also incorporate 3G connectivity, allowing users to access the Internet from anywhere there’s a mobile data connection. The first carrier confirmed to bring the device to consumers in European provider Vodafone.
Pricing details have yet to be announced.
