Report: Intel tablet to support NFC capabilities

Intel’s upcoming Android tablet will apparently boast Near Field Communication (NFC) capabilities.

Though an official announcement has yet to be made, the NFC logo was spotted on the back of a prototype tablet model being shown off to press at the firm’s developer forum on Wednesday.

Intel says it will be coming out with an Android-based tablet running on Medfield (its latest Atom chipset) and has been touting its Red Ridge design reference at the show.

Red ridge, which sports GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G and Wi-Di (Intel’s Wireless display technology), will also purportedly boast the burgeoning payment platform being rapidly adopted throughout the mobile industry.

Santa Clara was also touting the ability to sync up one’s smartphone and PC in order to receive SMS messages and other notifications on the computer and respond from either device.

The device should make some sort of official appearance in the first quarter of 2012.
