Plastic Logic inks AT&T 3G deal

San Francisco (CA) – Plastic Logic has inked a lucrative deal with AT&T to provide 3G connectivity for its Wi-Fi enabled eReader.

“We’re extremely proud to be able to offer the Plastic Logic Reader with the nation’s fastest 3G network through AT&T,” spun Plastic Logic CEO Richard Archuleta. “This alliance is a pillar in our strategy to provide mobile business professionals with a device that delivers a great reading experience, and is fully connected through 3G and Wi-Fi to deliver easy access to digital content.”

An AT&T executive explained that there was “tremendous” potential for electronic reading devices such as the Plastic Logic Reader. However, the company declined to disclose financial terms of the deal.

The Plastic Logic Reader – which is slated for launch in 2010 – is approximately the size of an 8.5 x 11 inch pad of paper, less than a quarter of an inch thick and “weighs less than many print magazines.” In addition, the device features a battery that is expected to “last days, instead of hours.”

According to Plastic Logic, the reader is “designed specifically” for mobile users and supports range of formats, including PDF, Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents.
