Opinion: Obama to host talk about economy at Facebook HQ

President Obama is teaming up with Mark Zuckerberg to talk about the economy at a town hall-style meeting at Facebook HQ.

According to the Los Angeles Times, they choose 4/20 as the day to do it. The only explanation is that Obama and his social media buddy Zuckerberg are already high on the sweet fumes coming off of Obama’s recently launched 2012 reelection campaign.

You’ll have to excuse me if I cannot take this laughable piece of news very seriously. The whole thing reeks of pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Just base your campaign on whatever us “idiots” love Mr. President. That is a surefire way to get back in office. Right now we idiots love our social media networks. Hell they even made a movie about how Facebook was created and people loved it! It even won a few Academy Awards.

Here’s the thing though, Facebook is already on its way out. At least one media theorist, the always interesting Douglas Rushkoff, thinks that Facebook is on its last legs. And I agree with him.

I would not be surprised if the Obama town hall is the last nail in Facebook’s coffin. Leave it to the government to use Facebook (like a cheap trick) one more time to get Obama in office.

Goldman Sachs has gathered billions of their investors’ to money to pump into Facebook, but that doesn’t mean that Facebook will remain valuable for very much longer. Rushkoff thinks that Goldman Sachs pumping money into Facebook is a sign that Facebook probably won’t rule the world for very much longer.

I hope he is right, Facebook has jumped the shark and it would be nice to see a new form of social media take over. Until then we have to deal with the extreme pandering to the masses over Facebook.

Right now Facebook is still “in”, so that means that the president is going to talk about the troubled economy on Zuckerberg’s home turf.

Why did the president pick Facebook HQ anyways? Is it because Facebook is known as a serious outlet for political thought?

No. It’s because the masses are usually viewed as dummies, and people who want control over the masses use whatever you love to get you to like them. His first campaign used social media to get people to think he was cool, and it worked.

And their hope is that they can use Facebook to con the masses into voting into voting for him again. Even though Facebook is something that millions of American’s every day, it’s still a private company.

Right now it’s a rather powerful company too, one that has had some financial dealings with Goldman Sachs, the same people who had a hand in the most recent financial collapse.

Conducting a town hall on the economy, from the HQ of one of the most valuable associates of the banking cartels, seems kind of like a slap in the face. But to most people they will probably see it as sign that our president is a cool dude.

People will see Facebook in the background and they will have happy feelings because they waste so much time on Facebook.

I am going to guess that this town hall at Facebook will be one of the most watered down political events we will see all year. It happens on Wednesday and it should be pretty interesting. I can’t wait to hear the ideas that President Obama and Mark Zuckerberg have for “fixing” the economy.
