Microsoft delays WP7 cut and paste after update SNAFU

Windows Phone 7 users will have to wait even longer for simple cut and paste functionality as Redmond postpones a long-awaited platform update to the latter half of March.

Microsoft rep Eric Hautala attributed the embarrassing delay to Redmond’s rogue WP7 February patch, which froze and bricked a number of smartphones from various manufacturers.

”Let me be crystal clear: We’re not satisfied when problems prevent you from enjoying the latest Windows Phone updates. When we find an issue, we study and fix it,” Hautala explained in an official blog post.

“To that end, we’re carefully studying the current update process and will apply the lessons learned from it to all future ones. This is how we get better.”

Nevertheless, Hautala confirmed the next update was almost ready and “waiting” in the wings.

“I believe it’s important we learn all we can from the February update. So I’ve decided to take some extra time to ensure the update process meets our standards, your standards, and the standards of our partners.

“As a result, our plan is to start delivering the copy-and-paste update in the latter half of March.”

The rep also insisted the short pause “would in no way impact” the timing of future updates – such as the one uveiled recently at Mobile World Congress (MWC), which features multitasking, additional Twitter options and an HTML 5-friendly version of Internet Explorer Mobile.
