Intel Reader gizmo will read text to you

Semiconductor giant Intel said it has created a Reader that will convert printed text to digital text and read it out aloud.

The Reader is aimed at helping around 55 million people in the USA who have problems with eyesight or dyslexia.

The unit includes a high resolution camera used to point to printed text and Intel said that if you use the Intel Portable Capture Station, large amounts of text – even complete books can be captured.

The Reader will be distributed through resellers including CTL, Don Johnston, GTSI, HumanWare and Howard Technology Solutions.

The Intel Reader has the endorsement of the International Dyslexia Association. No details of pricing were supplied by Intel at press time.
