Hitachi GST gives two terabytes a spin

The hard drive wing of Japanese giant Hitachi said it has started shipping a two terabyte (TB) unit.

The 2TB Deskstar 7K2000 includes low power features and high performance. It comes with a 32MB memory cache, a 3Gb/S Serial ATA (S-ATA) interface and is aimed at desktops for power users or gamers.

Hitachi GST also said it is refreshing other member of its high volume desktop hard drives. The 7K100C has 500GB per platter and will be made available in capacities from 160GB to 1TB.

Volume production of these devices will start this quarter, Hitachi said.

Hitachi gave no indication of the prices of the 2GB unit.
