Android-powered set-top boxes are starting to become rather commonplace, as they are now available in multiple price ranges and a variety of form factors.
While many of the set-top boxes are very similar, some do boast standout features, such as those featuring front-facing cameras.
Recently, a new Android-powered set-top box known as the G-Box Midnight MX2 began making the obligatory online rounds. The device – which features a dual-core processor – is designed to run Android and XBMC.
The box ships with a custom version of the open source app, all loaded up and ready to run. G-Box Midnight also supports hardware accelerated video playback for multiple video formats and is configured for easy installation of add-ons for Hulu, Amazon, along with other media streaming sites. The device is equipped with four USB ports, an HDMI output, optical audio output, a memory card slot and a wireless remote.
Users will also be able to access the Google Play store and, yes modders, the box ships pre-rooted. Meaning, it will be very easy to install Android apps from a variety of sources.
Another sweet feature? The box ships with a wireless remote control. The MX2 measures 5 x 5 x 2-inches and is available right now on Amazon.com at a $100 price point.
