Faulty wiring on the Targus Universal power adapter for laptops considered a burn hazard. Editors stop working just in case.
Man, I was going to buy one of these suckers, honest, the Targus Universal Wall Power Adapter for Laptops, to be precise. The US CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) and the manufacturer, Comarco of Lake Forest, California, are recalling, to be even more precise, the APA23US-02, APA23US-03, APA23US-04, APA63US-03, APA63US-04, APM62US-03 and APM62US-04. You can find the number by tickling the adapters’ belly.
There are 507,000 of the damn things out there which is pretty amazing in and by itself, and out of that, there have been 518 incidents of the tips overheating and burning someone. Faulty wiring on the connector tips causes them to get hot and melt the plastic casing around the tips hence the burn hazard.
If you have one, you need to immediately stop using it, says the CPSC. You may have bought one from Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples, Amazon or other retailers between June 2009 and March 2010 for a tidy sum between $89 and $109 for wall outlets, or $129 and $149 for both wall and car/airplane use.
It’s kind of interesting when this type of thing happens because, now you can see the wide disparity in pricing. A $20 spread is major, is it not my buds.
