Via has debuted an ARM-powered SoC known as the WonderMedia PRIZM WM8950. The dual-core A9 processor – clocked at 1.2Ghz – is paired with a Mali-400MP2 GPU.
The PRIZM SoC supports a number of operating systems, including Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean), Linux and WinCE 7.
According to the folks at CNX-Software, the chip is targeted at mobile, digital home and business applications in devices such as tablets, smart TVs, networked projectors, digital signage players and thin clients.

Support for Miracast DMR, HDMI, LVDS, and DVO video interfaces, a CMOS sensor input for webcams, SD / SDIO / MMC / e-MMC interfaces, USB 2.0 Host/device, audio interfaces (I2S, S/PDIF, PCM), SPI, I2C, UARTs and GPIO.
Plus, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth can be supported with external chips via SPI and UART interfaces, although Ethernet has been dropped.
WonderMedia PRIZM WM8980 samples are currently available for device manufacturers, with mass production of the chips expected to kick off in Q1 2013.
