It’s no secret Foursquare is actively pursuing the daily deals space within the “Explore” tab in its location-based check-in service.
Having partnered with LivingSocial, Gilt City, AT&T Interactive, BuyWithMe, and Zozi, Foursquare can now add daily deal mega site Groupon to the list of daily deal partners.
Launching first in the Chicago area, the Foursquare “Explore” tab boasts real-time, location-based offers powered through Groupon Now. Foursquare users can click on the Explore tab where they will discover local deals nearby in the true Groupon style.
Users in the U.S. and Canada can expect to see the Groupon Now deals by Sunday.
Mashablereports that Groupon will share revenues with Foursquare for an undisclosed amount, much like its partnerships with the other daily deal sites.
“Foursquare’s goal is to help people connect in the real world, discover new places, and save money through Specials and Deals. We’re excited that Groupon’s daily deals and real-time deals will now be included in our Deals platform,” a Foursquare spokesperson said.
What’s cool about buying local deals on a mobile phone is the ability to redeem them right away. When you buy a Groupon or LivingSocial deal online, you are forced to wait until the deal is sold out before you can redeem it.
However, this isn’t the case with mobile, as such daily deals are designed to give the user instant accessibility based on location, therefore increasing impulse buying and redefining the way people interact with the world around them as a consumer.
The partnership works for both Groupon and Foursquare because of the ubiquity of Foursquare (10 million downloads) and the instant redeemability of the Groupon Now coupons.
Location-based daily deals are hot on the radar right now where everyone from Groupon to LivingSocial to Google Offers is trying to get a piece of the action.
